Operating tourism on Queensland’s northern frontier has never been easy, but every year it gets better. With new airport infrastructure in Cooktown, terrific road infrastructure into Cape York, improved marine port facilities and the soon to be finished waterfront recreation precinct, Cooktown and the greater region is moving forward every year. We never forget and are reminded all the time, that we are a frontier destination. However the greater Cooktown area is open to tourists 12 months of the year and a great self drive destination for all of those months. Being the service hub for Queensland’s largest Shire, Cooktown and the greater Cook Shire region is full of opportunity. These opportunities are never going to be realised over night, but we will never give up trying to improve. The charm of our region is its History, Adventure & Culture, for those who seek to get away from the crowds and enjoy genuine country hospitality and diversity of nature.

This years Explore Cooktown cover is all about thousands of years of holding ones hand up. From early times till now, Cook holding his telescope to the fishing guys holding their stubbies. In tough times it was great to see the community support for this community publication, every year it gets better, as does the brand Explore Cooktown!
